Safety and usage
Studylight is built to help you learn, and to be safe to use for students of every age. These are the rules we hold ourselves and you to.
Draft, not legal advice. Text in [square brackets] is still to be confirmed. Argentic Labs reviews this with a lawyer before launch.
What you can do
- Ask for explanations, analogies, hints and worked examples on your subjects.
- Send your own working, essays and sketches to be marked.
- Ask it to quiz you and to plan your revision around your deadlines.
What it will not do
- Hand over homework answers. It gives hints and a similar worked example, so the work stays yours.
- Write work for you to hand in as your own, such as a full essay or a lab report.
- Help with cheating in an exam or an assessment.
- Give medical, legal, mental health or financial advice. It is a study tutor.
What you must not do
- Do not upload other people’s private information, or photos of anyone’s face. Photos should be of your working.
- Do not upload anything illegal, abusive, sexual or violent, or anything you do not have the right to share.
- Do not try to make the tutor ignore its rules, reveal its instructions, or produce harmful content.
- Do not attack, scrape, overload or probe the service, or use other people’s accounts.
- Do not use the tutor to harass, impersonate or deceive anyone.
Breaking these can mean a warning, limits on your account or closing it. Serious cases may be reported to the authorities where the law requires.
Younger students
Students under 18 need a parent or guardian to agree before they join. We do not show ads to anyone, do not let students contact each other through Studylight, and do not use a student’s record to profile them for marketing.
If you are struggling
Exam stress is real, and a tutor is not the right place for anything bigger. If you are feeling overwhelmed, unsafe or in crisis, please talk to someone you trust, your school or university support team, or a local helpline. [ADD HELPLINES BY REGION, for example Samaritans 116 123 in the UK, 988 in the US]. If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency number.
If the tutor sees you describe something worrying, it will stop the lesson and point you to support instead of carrying on.
Report a problem
If the tutor says something harmful, wrong or upsetting, or you think someone is misusing Studylight, email [SAFETY EMAIL] with what happened. We read every report. [CONFIRM RESPONSE TIME]
AI and its limits
Replies are written by an AI model and can be wrong. We test the tutor against rules like the ones above, but no system is perfect. When it matters, check against your teacher and your textbook.
