Privacy
Studylight is a tutor that remembers you, so it keeps a record about you. This page says exactly what, why, who can see it, and how to see or delete all of it.
Draft, not legal advice. Text in [square brackets] is still to be confirmed. Argentic Labs reviews this with a lawyer before launch.
Who we are
Studylight is made by Argentic Labs ([REGISTERED ENTITY AND ADDRESS]). For privacy questions write to [PRIVACY EMAIL].
What we keep
- Account: your name, email address, a hashed password, and whether your email is verified. If you are under 18, we also keep your age band and your parent or guardian’s email and consent.
- Your study record: your subjects, topics, confidence from 1 to 5, deadlines, the confusions you or the tutor note down, and when each topic is next due for review.
- What you send the tutor: your messages, answers, sketches, photos of your working, and graphs you plot.
- Marking: which step, sentence or unit was marked as broken, the hint you got, and whether you got it right.
- Check-ins: if you turn them on, your chosen time and the push address your browser gives us.
- Basic technical data: your session cookie, and error logs that can include your IP address and browser. [CONFIRM LOG RETENTION]
Why we keep it
- To run the tutor: it reads your record before every reply so you never repeat yourself.
- To plan your sessions and send the check-ins you asked for.
- To keep the service safe and fix problems.
We do not sell your data, show ads, or use your record to build advertising profiles. [CONFIRM LEGAL BASIS PER REGION, for example contract and consent under UK and EU GDPR]
Who else handles it
We use a small number of providers to run Studylight. Each only gets what it needs to do its job.
- Vercel: hosts the website and server.
- Neon: hosts the database that holds your account and record. [CONFIRM REGION]
- NVIDIA NIM: the AI model that writes the tutor’s replies and reads your photos. Your messages, and photos you attach, are sent to it so it can answer. [CONFIRM THAT THE MODEL PROVIDER DOES NOT TRAIN ON API DATA]
- Desmos: draws graphs in your browser. [CONFIRM WHAT DESMOS RECEIVES]
- Your browser’s push service (Apple, Google, Mozilla), only if you turn on check-ins.
We may also share information if the law requires it.
See and delete your record
In Settings you can see everything above in one place and delete the whole record, or your whole account, in one go. Deleting removes it from our database straight away and from backups within [BACKUP WINDOW]. If you cannot get in, email [PRIVACY EMAIL] from the address on your account.
Depending on where you live you may also have the right to correct your data, export it, object to how we use it, and complain to your data protection regulator. Ask and we will help.
Under 18
Studylight is for students. If you are under 18 we ask for a parent or guardian’s consent before your account is created. We do not knowingly keep data about children under [MINIMUM AGE, for example 13] at all. A parent or guardian can ask to see or delete a child’s record at any time by emailing [PRIVACY EMAIL].
Security
Passwords are hashed, traffic is encrypted, and only the services above can reach the database. No system is perfectly secure. If something goes wrong that affects you, we tell you and the regulator where the law requires it.
Cookies
We use one session cookie to keep you signed in and a theme preference stored in your browser. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. [CONFIRM IF ANALYTICS ARE ADDED]
Changes
If we change this page in a way that matters, we tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
